Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment for common types of headaches. Chiropractors can assess, diagnose, treat and help you deal with your headache pain while addressing the cause of the headache.
Types of headaches:
Tension Headache
Tension headaches are the most common type of headache and are often described as a tight band of dull or achy pain. The pain is usually felt on both sides. Stress is the number one cause of tension headaches. Other causes are poor posture, injury, hunger, alcohol, and eyestrain.
Migraine Headache
Migraine headaches are described as an intense throbbing or pulsing pain on one side of the head and behind one eye. They can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and light and sound sensitivity, but can have a range of other symptoms. Prior to onset, some people will experience an aura ( a visual or sensory disturbance such as seeing spots, zigzag lines, numbness, partial vision loss). Causes may include, hormones changes, food triggers, stress, medications, and environmental factors, such as weather.
Sinus Headache
With a sinus headache, the pain is around your cheekbones, eyes, forehead, and bridge of your nose. Sinus headaches are a result of congestion from allergies or infections. Pressure builds up in the sinus spaces and causes pain. Pain often increases when bending forward, moving your head, or straining.
Cervicogenic Headache
A Cervicogenic Headache originates in the cervical spine, or neck, and is only on one side. The headache extends from the back of the head to the front. Pain is worsened by the movement of the neck.
